I'm running for governor as an independent candidate. Yes, it's a grand experiment, since to my knowledge there has never been one. I've been working at this for over a year, and all I can say is that it's very difficult. There is no headquarters to call. Also there's no way to readily connect with independent voters. Take a look at my website, http://www.bonneyforgov.com/. We have a number of issues posted and they are a work in progress. I am very open to anyone who wants to contribute to the dialog. Afterall, it is the peoples' forum just like my administration will be the peoples' government.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Steve,
So glad to get this message. Let's go!
Steve, You have two votes from this household in Southern Indiana. We would be more than to gather signatures for your Independent run! Finally - a good, honest, guy on the side of the people!
Steve, I am delighted to leave a comment for you to consider. While reading your bio, I noticed that you said that you proudly served in the military "chemical core".
I would like for you to continue that thought and tell us why you were proud. I would like to think that entry could be expanded so that when speaking of you to others, we can reply to their "jaw drop" stance with..."and here is why is was proud...and how that makes me want to vote for him as a peace activist.
Could you possibly expand on your comment to provide that reference for us please.
Steve,
As a fellow Jeffersonian and a frustrated Hoosier, I am thrilled to hear of your entry. I am sure that many all through the state will be!
This individual Hoosier still considers you more than the best choice in the race, but I have a couple of questions I did not find answered in your Issues section:
1.) Where do you stand –quite specifically- on the ideal organization of local government?
2.) What is your stance of the rights of GLBT Hoosiers?
If you could provide a response to this I would be so truly grateful. Such blessedly honest communication would be truly wonderful and I eagerly await any answer you give.
In any case, your openness and integrity are so valuable to the state. We'll be rooting for you :)
Going out from Evansville to Gov. Bonney- one resounding “Thank You!”
The only issue to me is the invasion of our country by illegal aliens. The candidate which addresses this threat gets my vote.
Hope Steve is the one to get it.
To Dan: You can't be serious...immigration is your ONLY issue? Maybe these folks speak for you:

dmoore asked about my military service. I am proud that I served my country in the military. It is the duty of the citizen patriot to serve. We do not always have a choice in the way we serve. I have served my country in many other ways through my personal service.
I had just finished my first year as a chemistry teacher in a community college when I was called to active duty during the Vietnam War. I was assigned to the Chemical Corps to teach chemical, biological and radiological warfare.
With a top secret security clearance I was privy to information relating to the abominations of war. It shaped my thinking.
Later in my life, I actively worked on nuclear disarmament and other issues related to peace and was a co-founder of the Lafayette Peace Coalition in 1979.
I still advocate for peace, but am a realist about possible armed aggression against our country. In this regard I am old school and I heed Teddy Roosevelt's advice, "Walk softly and carry a big stick."

1. Where do you stand –quite specifically- on the ideal organization of local government?
In theory, the government that is closest to the people is the best government.
That said, I cannot describe an "ideal" local government. For the most part, township government is a layer of government that we can do without in most counties. In metro areas that have township offices, they are more accessible than county government offices.
I do not favor hiring county executives. Only elected officials should have taxing authority for reasons of accountability.
In any case, the people should decide what is best for themselves.
2. What is your stance of the rights of GLBT Hoosiers?
GLBT Hoosiers have exactly the same rights that every other Hoosier has under the law. There must not be any discrimination against the rights of any Hoosier for any reason.
Thank you Steve, for providing the an alternative I can feel good about voting for. My question for you involves your status as an independent. Why not run as a democrat? With the uninspiring choices on the democratic primary ballot, someone like you should have had an easy time getting the support to earn the democratic nomination.
Steve,
Collect a few more signatures today thanks to Concerned Citizens of Johnson County. Each line brings us closer to the goal.
Bill
